Application characteristics of butterfly valve and gate valve in different fields

The butterfly valve consists of a disc-shaped butterfly plate and a valve body, which rotates around the center line of the valve body to control the fluid flow. Its compact structure, small size, light weight, easy to install and maintain. When the butterfly valve is fully opened, the butterfly plate is parallel to the flow direction, the flow resistance is small, the opening and closing is rapid, and the operating torque is small, which is suitable for the occasions that need to be quickly cut off or adjusted. Butterfly valves are more suitable for low and medium pressure systems, often used in urban water supply, drainage systems, as well as chemical, HVAC and other industries. In chemical pipelines, butterfly valves can effectively control the flow of corrosive or abrasive media.

The gate valve controls the flow of fluid by lifting the gate plate, which is perpendicular to the flow direction. The gate valve has a large contact surface between the gate plate and the seat, and the sealing performance is better than that of the butterfly valve, which is suitable for occasions where the flow rate needs to be accurately controlled. Gate valve is resistant to high temperature and high pressure, suitable for high temperature and high pressure industrial environment, such as oil and gas transmission pipeline, thermal power plant boiler water supply system. In sewage treatment, gate valves are also commonly used to regulate the flow of sludge and wastewater. Gate valves are also suitable for fluids containing solid particles or wear in the medium.

Compared with the two, the butterfly valve has a simple structure and low maintenance cost, but the sealing performance is relatively poor, and it is suitable for the fluid with clean media and no particles. Gate valve structure is complex, the maintenance cost is relatively high, but the sealing performance is good, suitable for various media.

In practical applications, the choice of butterfly valve or gate valve should be considered according to the specific industrial application requirements, fluid characteristics, operating conditions and other factors. The correct selection and use of these two valves can effectively improve the operating efficiency and safety of industrial systems. Both butterfly valves and gate valves play an irreplaceable role in their respective fields of application.
