What is valve packing

Valve packing is a material used to seal valves, pumps, pipes and other equipment. It has characteristics such as wear resistance, corrosion resistance and high temperature resistance.

I. Concept and Function of Valve Packing

Valve packing is a material that is densely packed on the sealing surfaces of valves and other equipment to ensure the sealing performance of the equipment. During the opening and closing of the valve, the packing is used to solve the equipment gap, thereby preventing medium leakage or the entry of external impurities into the equipment interior, which is the key to ensuring the normal operation of the equipment.

II. Classification of Valve Packing

Valve packing is classified by material types into: inorganic packing, organic packing and metal packing.

Inorganic packing: such as asbestos, ceramic fibers, quartz, etc., with excellent high-temperature resistance, corrosion resistance and wear resistance, is widely used in equipment under high-temperature and high-pressure conditions.

Organic packing: such as polytetrafluoroethylene, acrylic, etc., has good corrosion resistance, wear resistance and anti-corrosion properties, and can be widely used in chemical, fine chemical fields.

Metal packing: such as copper wire, aluminum wire, steel wire, etc., has good thermal conductivity and electrical conductivity, and is widely used in some equipment with high sealing requirements.

III. Installation of Valve Packing

When installing valve packing, the following points should be noted:

1. The packing should be selected based on the working conditions of the equipment and the characteristics of the medium.

2. The packing should be selected with an appropriate cross-sectional shape and size to ensure that it can be firmly tightened within a good elastic deformation range.

3. Before installing the packing, the surface of the packing groove should be kept clean and flat to ensure that the packing is in uniform contact with the equipment.

4. The packing should be compressed to a certain extent in a specific way to achieve a good sealing effect. During compression, attention should be paid to adjusting the elastic deformation of the packing and its good compacted state.
